Environmental Feedback

Do you get annoyed with inanimate objects?

Another way of observing how you are tracking through your day is by paying attention to how you are reacting to inanimate objects, like red lights for example. It seriously isn’t the red light’s fault that you are getting annoyed, you have probably gone through those lights red, green or amber heaps of times without having a reaction. SO what is it in YOU that is making you react to that red light?

You can figure this out by doing a body scan or mood diary entry or just by observing how you are feeling. Once you have developed these observational skills you will become aware of your emotions and how they are impacting the moments in your day. Once you can identify these emotions then you can develop strategies to moderate your distress and move on with your day with a free and uncluttered mind and state.

So how wonderful is it that things like red lights are giving us a feedback loop to remind us to figure out what is going on internally and manage the distress before it negatively impacts the rest of the day.

So to recap this section: Remember that rather than reacting to triggers you can create a space in your life to respond to situations. This is achieved by observing your states in the moment and apprehending the emotions when they are small. Once you have done this, deal with the situation proactively. This will empower you to live your life in the moment and engage with others and events transparently.
